President Uhuru Kenyatta’s lawyer has harshly opposed claims that the new currency will aid in the war against graft.
Ahmednassir Abdullahi rubbished optimism by Kenyans, stating that corruption in Kenya is on a grand scale and it will take more than the new currency to fight the menace.
The senior counsel says the only way Kenya can get rid of corruption is by having credible institutions devoted to fighting corruption systematically.
He further emphasizes that the Judiciary and the police force must be free of corruption as they are at the forefront in the fight against graft.
His sentiments come days after supporters of the introduction of new currency by the Central Bank of Kenya expressed optimism that it would go a long way in ridding Kenya of corruption.
